Doug Anderson is a practicing artist based in Hillsboro, Oregon, and Professor of Art at Pacific University. He earned his BFA from the University of Arizona and his MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. His work explores the intersection of beauty and conceptual inquiry, examining psychological and cultural tensions within the human condition. Balancing spontaneous mark-making with meticulous detail, Anderson creates images that draw viewers in through refined craft while revealing layered, sometimes unsettling content. Working between representation and abstraction, he embraces both traditional and experimental approaches in his studio practice and teaching.
